Let’s be honest who really wants to eat veggies when there are so many other options out there. You know like…. caramel machiatos and cool ranch dorritos. But! when it comes to your health and longevity, we all need to be thinking about our colorful friends (not skittles… by the way.)
One doctor told me he tries to have 7 different colors in every meal. This ensures that you are getting a variety of nutrients. For example:
1. Mandarin on a salad (orange and green: that’s 2)
2. Sliced almonds on the same salad (beige: that makes 3)
3. Red and Yellow peppers on a bed of rice (red, yellow and white: that’s 6)
4. Salmon (pinkish orange: that’s 7)
5. Haagen Dazs ice cream (brown) Well lookie there, that’s 8 for my over achievers wink, wink!
Vegetables are AWESOME!! Turns out, your momma was right. Now eat “yo” vegetables. Enough of stuffing them under the rim of your plate, thinking that mom would never find them.
My brother hated peas, no matter how much my momma tried to feed him those peas, he’d spit them out. Even burying them in a mound of mashed potatoes was no match for a discerning tongue. You get the point. It’s time, we all changed the way we think about our earth grown friends.
